“1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back”
Setbacks stink. They cause anxiety. They drive up costs. They are unexpected, unwanted, and un-nice. They make us yell. They make leaders agitated. They make employees nervous. BUT, they always happen. Always. Nothing goes as planned. So why do we react the same way when they occur?
There is a very wise lesson in a letter written to a group of people that resided on the western shores of what is now modern day Turkey. They were stand-outs, doing things differently, but they were struggling with setbacks. So their leader imparted some wisdom… “First, examine yourself.”
Many times we blame someone else for the inevitable “setback”. And it may well be their fault, but we often forget to “examine ourselves” to see if there is any fault in us. OUCH! That isn’t any more fun than a setback. But it is necessary in life and in business.
